Tennis at Casa de Campo

The Dominican Republic is a paradise for anyone who enjoys outdoor sports, and the all-inclusive Casa de Campos hotel La Romana has them all. This luxurious beach side resort has several tennis courts available on site, included with your stay package. Don't worry about bringing your racquet – the resort has plenty of high-quality equipment.

There are thirteen outdoor tennis courts at Casa de Campo – and during the busy season, they fill up fast! You may reserve a court to play, but keep in mind that when the resort is full, to place your reservation at the top of each hour. Your time will be limited, so make sure that you show up a few minutes early in order to play your full reservation. If the resort isn't busy, or you're traveling during the off season, then the resort is a little more open to longer reservations at different times. If you aren't sure, the tennis pros can help with reservation questions and length of play.

If you've never tried tennis, or if it's been a while and your game is rusty, consider taking a tennis lesson. A free lesson is part of your Casa de Campo rental, and the professional instructors are encouraging and quite skilled. In fact, the Tennis Center is called "The Wimbledon of the Caribbean"! Between junior tennis pros and seasoned vets, there are twenty-five different instructors on hand to help you up your game. Even kids can play – some of the babysitting services include tennis time.

Check-in for your tennis reservation at the Pro Shop – and you can also pick up new equipment, rent or borrow what you need, and even score some high-quality sportswear for your game there. The staff is friendly and quick to help with a recommendation for everything from visors to racquets. If you've stayed here before, you'll notice that there's still access to that rarest of tennis amenities—ball boys—as well as to a stable of young pros available as fill-ins or hitting partners. While the Pro Shop staff tries to partner match when needed, depending on who is staying at the resort, your results can be mixed. Still, though, yo''re here to relax and enjoy yourself, easy to do in this beautiful setting. Court fees: $35/hour days, $45/hour nights.

The 13-court La Terraza Tennis Center is absolutely beautifully laid out. A large patio with the pro shop, a bar, swimming pool, and tables and chairs overlooks the courts, all of which are Har-Tru. Two are individually fenced show courts, their action viewable from the patio or the terraced, red-brick seating area. Ten out of the thirteen courts are lighted. The remaining courts have been scattered in twos and threes through a landscape lush with colourful flowers, verdant shrubs, and towering trees.
